FOURTEEN SPIRITUAL EXERCISES TO HELP FOSTER THE SPIRITUAL LIFE

  1. Monthly Confession
  2. Weekly Eucharist, coupled with a weekly “visit” to the Most Blessed Sacrament
  3. Morning Offering
  4. Rosary (five decades daily)
  5. Chaplet of Divine Mercy (one daily)
  6. Fasting (according to the sound practice of Holy Mother Church)
  7. Two Daily Examinations of Conscience (i.e., Particular Examen at midday and General Examen at end of day)
  8. Short, fervent aspiration prayers said throughout the day (e.g., “O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee!”)
  9. Daily Liturgical Reader with Short Meditation for each day (e.g., Magnificat, The Word Among Us, One Bread One Body)
  10. Use of Sacramentals, whether in Objects (e.g., the use of Holy Water and Religious Medals) or in Actions (e.g., Blessings) and the practice of Indulgences (Partial and Plenary)
  11. Sacred Scripture (one chapter daily)
  12. Catechism of the Catholic Church (five paragraphs daily)
  13. Lives of the Saints (condensed version, one Saint per week)
  14. St. Faustina’s Diary, Divine Mercy in My Soul (five paragraphs per week)

Fr. Wade L. J. Menezes, CPM is a member of the Fathers of Mercy, a missionary preaching Religious Congregation based in Auburn, Kentucky. Ordained a priest during the Great Jubilee Year 2000, he received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Catholic Thought from the Oratory of St. Philip Neri in Toronto, Canada and his dual Master of Arts and Master of Divinity Degrees in Theology from Holy Apostles Seminary in Cromwell, Connecticut. His secular college degrees are in journalism and communications.
