“The Mercy Of A Very Personal God”
Hello friends, Fr. Wade Menezes here of the Fathers of Mercy with another “Mercy Moment” for the Extraordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy called for by Pope Francis.
One of the greatest acts of mercy that our very personal, loving, family-oriented and Trinitarian God has performed for us is that He has revealed himself to us – to all humanity.
In the Second Divine Personage of the Son, we literally “see” God, and the Son in turn reveals to us His oneness with the Father and the Holy Spirit. Maybe this is why Pope St. Leo the Great says that through the Sacred Incarnation, God enlarges our humanity without diminishing His divinity.
But as an additional act of tremendous and loving mercy toward us, my friends, Almighty God has also given us the visible Church, the Bride of Christ, which we know by four distinctive marks: the fact that she is one, holy, catholic (meaning universal) and apostolic.
And it is this Church – this Bride of Christ – that gives us the Sacred Deposit of Faith: that heritage of faith contained in Sacred Scripture and Tradition, handed-on in the Church from the time of the Apostles, from which the Magisterium draws all that it proposes for belief as being divinely revealed.
Think about it: we literally can “know” the truth precisely because it has been revealed. We then embrace it, and share it with others. And this is all resultant – again – of a very personal, loving, family-oriented, Trinitarian – and merciful – God.
And that’s another Mercy Moment. I’m Fr. Wade Menezes of the Fathers of Mercy. Be sure to visit and navigate through the Fathers of Mercy website at fathersofmercy.com and follow us on Facebook. God bless you.
